MASTERING
The music industry is now following suit, and many leading streaming platforms are normalising music so the play back is at a consistent volume. If you hear a dynamically mastered jazz track followed by a compressed, loud dubstep track they maintain a relatively constant perceived loudness. This new standard in mastering and is the only form that streaming platforms accept. we use LUFS as our final platform. For broadcast, the recommended standard is -23 LUFS — but that’s different from mastering music for playback. We often make subjective calls about how much dynamic range we want, and we can master to whatever LUFS we want. After getting something that “sounds right,” analyzing where it sits on the LUFS scale makes it easier to fine-tune the levels of other tracks so that they’re consistent.
